Why choose a BBB Member?

The BBB Name Means Trust

The Better Business Bureau enjoys a 98% favorable name recognition rating as reported in a survey from the Gallup Organization. With it's level of positive public awareness, it's clear that membership in the BBB lets consumers know that a business is worthy of their trust.

A Roper survey also found that consumers often ask about several similar companies before deciding which one to buy services or products from. Seventy-four percent (74%) of consumers said they prefer doing business with a BBB member.

Members Are Held to High Standards

Members must meet the BBB's Standards of Membership. These standards highlight important issues such as the dependability of the company's service, honesty of its advertising claims and business practices and the reliability of its complaint handling procedures. Many BBB members agree to use arbitration, if necessary, to resolve disputes.

In 2005, BBB members had a dispute settlement rate of about 99%. The remaining 1% of unresolved complaints against BBB members represented those filed against firms whose memberships were subsequently revoked by the Board of Directors. By comparison, non-member companies had a lower settlement rate of about 65%.
